Description
This course provides an overview of microorganisms and macroparasites associated with infectious diseases, and preservation of the general state of health provided by innate and adaptive immunity. A basic knowledge of microbial taxonomy, growth, metabolism, reproduction and genetic variation is covered in sufficient detail for the student to understand interactions between host and pathogenic microorganisms in infectious diseases. Emphases also include the introduction of rational management, prevention, and control of infectious diseases, including antimicrobial therapy. Prerequisite: BIO 521. (4 units; Spring)
