Description

Introduction to the techniques and practice of common modes of essay writing: explanatory, persuasive, and argumentative essays. Particular emphasis will be placed on developing academic writing skills that prepare students for college level writing. Logical analysis of components of the essay, integration of evidence from sources, and intensive application of major grammatical systems of English will be emphasized. Lectures will focus on developing high levels of competence in detecting and remedying common ESL writing problems to improve essay clarity and effectiveness. Pass/Fail. Class hours: 4 Lecture/week. Prerequisites: ESL 031 or appropriate placement score and departmental approval. (3 units; As offered)
