Description

This is an advanced level ESL course designed to enhance students' research composition skills in four areas of learning: independent research of thematically organized college level articles using library and web-based sources; critical reading of sources concentrating on thorough comprehension and ability to respond to material in written forms, including responses, paraphrases, summaries, and critiques; academic writing of research paper, incorporating evidence from sources, using a five-step process: explore, focus, organize, create, and refine. Oral presentation of research will be given to prepare students for undergraduate courses in English and in other disciplines. Pass/Fail. Class hours: 3 Lecture/week. Prerequisite: ESL 050/051 or appropriate placement score and departmental approval. (1 unit; As offered)
