Description

This course delves into the critical intersection of educational policy and school social work, equipping future social workers with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate and influence the complex policy landscape in diverse school settings. Students will explore the roles and responsibilities of school social workers in addressing the needs of diverse student populations, including children with special needs, English language learners, and students from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. The course will provide a comprehensive understanding of relevant state and federal laws impacting children, families, and school personnel, such as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), and Title IX. Through case studies, policy analysis, and hands-on projects, students will learn to advocate for equitable educational opportunities and develop strategies to support the well-being and academic success of all students.
