Network Access Requirements and Restrictions:
  • 10/100 Megabit Capable Ethernet Network Interface Card with an RJ-45 connector is required.
  • RJ-45 Ethernet Patch Cablefrom your computer to the wall outlet is required.
  • Software Device Drivers for Windows Operating System are required for the Network Interface Card to work properly.
The following are prohibitions must be observed while using LancerNet:
  • Student Owned Network Routers and Wireless Access Points are not permitted.
  • Devices may not act as network file servers, print servers, steaming media server other provide other server-like services
  • Devices may not provide network management services (including but not limited to DHCP, DNS, WINS, SNMP, Traffic Sniffing, etc.).
  • Devices may not provide proxy services (such as Squid, MS-Proxy, etc.).
  • Users nor their devices may not downloading, share, serve, or otherwise distribute copyrighted material (including, but not limited to music, video, printed, or spoken media).
  • Users may not conducting an online business or distribute content and/or data to the Internet from LancerNet.
  • Users nor their devices may not tamper or access devices belonging to others without their consent and knowledge.
  • Users nor their devices may not impairing or otherwise limit another student's access to the network by spamming, flooding, or other denial-of-service attacks.

Residential locations (Smith Hall, Simmons Hall, Lancer Arms Apartments, Cottages, and University Place Apartments) are equipped with the following:
  • Network Access- One wired network port is provided per student in Smith, Simmons and the Cottages.  Lancer Arms Apartments and University Place Apartments offer CBU provided wireless acess. 
  • Cable television- One "Basic Cable" service hookup is provided per residence. Additional services such as pay per view and premium channels are not available.
  • ResNet Technicians - We provide troubleshooting, virus eradication, network configuration and basic support to residential student computers.  No hardware installations/repairs or major software support (reinstalling Operating System, advanced data recovery, etc) is provided.
  • Computer - Desktop or Laptop, 15-30 foot ethernet network cable (for Smith, Simmons and the Cottages), and current, up-to-date antivirus software.  If an anti-virus is not installed, CBU will provide a copy free of charge.
  • Television - Recommend one per residence
  • During move in, ITS staff will be available to assist residents with configuring their computers for LancerNet access.
Reporting IT Issues in Residence areas:
Do you have a problem with your cable TV?  Building wide outage?
The ITS Helpdesk works in collaboration with Residence Directors  to log, monitor and troubleshoot any problems with CableTV or Internet access from your room or apartment. Report any issues to your RA or RD and they can open a work order.

Lab Usage Guidelines

  • Students must present their valid student ID to use the computer labs on campus.
  • Student work should be saved on personal storage devices such as a USB Flash Drive. Documents saved on lab PCs can and will be erased automatically
  • Printing is available in the computer labs at a cost of $0.05 for every 2 pages. Duplex (double-sided) printing is available. 
  • Students may not install software or change the configurations on lab PCs.
