Here is what the individual study abroad process looks like:

1. Attend a Study Abroad Information Session

  • Students must attend one info session to begin their study abroad process.
  • Please arrive on time, as late students will not be let in.
  • Questions are most welcome. 
  • All session dates, times, and locations are found below.

2. Research Study Abroad Programs / Select One Study Abroad Program and Apply

3. Meet with the Director of Academic Engagement

  • Once you have been to an info session, you may schedule a meeting with the director or student worker:

4. Meet with Academic Advisor to Begin Your Study Abroad Petition

5. Meet with Department Dean or Chair

  • Discuss the possibility of study abroad with the dean or department chair of your program/major.
  • Discuss any academic variances that might occur. A variance is needed if you wish to take a course abroad that is within your major/minor/concentration.
  • Department Dean/Chair signature required on Petition to Study Abroad.

6. Complete Study Abroad Program Provider Process

  • Complete program requirement/application for third party study abroad company. Email any documents that require study abroad approval to director. 

7. Apply for a Passport/Student Visa (if required)

  • Passport must be valid six months past your return date.
  • Your third party program will guide you through the visa process for your host country.

8. Complete Step One of the CBU Study Abroad Online Forms

  • Fill out forms here
  • Contact Director if your program is not on the list.

9. Submit Petition to Study Abroad Form to Director of Academic Engagement

  • Director will forward your petition to University Registrar for course review.
  • Turn in signed petition, a list of 7 (semester) or 3-5 (summer) courses, your program information, and degree plan to director.
  • Wait for an email from University Registrar. Do not go into their office before you recieve the email.

10. Sign and Return Study Abroad Final Course Selection and Registration Form to University Registrar

  • Include academic variance if needed.

11. Financial Aid 

  • A Financial Aid advisor will be in contact regarding your financial aid. 
  • Petition will be forwarded from Registrar's Office to Financial Aid for review.
  • Meet with Financial Aid if needed.

12. Pay Balance to CBU

  • Student Accounts will be in contact regarding your sutdy abroad invoice.
  • Students will not pay their program provider directly. 
  • Balance must be paid to CBU two weeks before departure date.

13. Submit Step Two of the CBU Study Abroad Online Forms

14. Attend Study Abroad Pre-Departure Orientation

  • Director of Academic Engagement will schedule orientation and provide details on time and date.

15. Bon Voyage!

  • Check-in upon arrival to your destination. Send director email within the first week of arriving.

16. Attend Return Banquet     

  • Attend a mandatory debrief meeting.
  • Report any change of courses while overseas.
  • Get involved. Become a Global Ambassador and share with other students.
